Thoughts on product market fit

I had a meeting a while back with a VC talking about "product market fit" for my game. Its something that I hadn't considered very formally in the past as a game developer. I just thought that the better the game is, the more units it will sell... easy!

We were early in development and were having loads of fun in our playtests. but one thing they said that stuck with me and sent me on this "learn Productization " journey.

The VC said, there are finished games out there, that play great, are developed by talented teams and everyone has fun... but they wont sell.

I've probably mentioned this before because this sentence had such a profound impact on me. I realized that its not enough just to make a good game. I realized that making the game better doesn't directly translate to selling more copies... and "best game" != "most money". A good, high quality game is definitely a crucial part of the equation, its not the whole story

I've learned a lot since this conversation, and I've been using my Youtube channel as a testing grounds for my theories. I now have enough subscribers and viewers on my channel that I have really good data on the visitors and target audience. I saw in the analytics that there is a popular search term that correlates with one of my videos, but the video itself is under-performing.

I (ofcourse) believe that my video is the best "product" for the customers so why isn't it higher rated? I could go ahead and make a new video with better production quality, more to the point etc. But it won't matter if nobody clicks it anyway. And at the end of the day it might be better for me (and the customers) that I don't spend 10 hours on 1 video but rather 1 hour on 10 videos.

I don't have an answer yet, but I did change the description, the thumbnail and the title to better fit the search terms.

Lets see if I can "sell more units" by only improving the wrapping of the product rather than the product itself.

Do you feel like this thumbnail is to the point
